I decided to try to make a sound recording as described on page http://www.emicrophones.com/docDetails.asp?DocumentID=30 - http://www.emicrophones.com/docDetails.asp?DocumentID=30  but without success.

Step 1.  In Vista the path is 'Start - All Programs - Accessories – Sound Recorder'.

SteStep 2.  There is no File Menu, or any other menu in Sound Recorder.

Step 4.  Step 4.  (where did the first few characters go as I had to enter this twice?)  Click back to Sound Recorder, presumably from the unnamed application I was supposed to switch to in Step 2.

Step 5.  (Why do the first few characters keep disappearing?  I am using IE8 on Vista.)  Click the Edit menu.  Where do I find it?
When  When (for the second time) I make a recording after ignoring steps 2 to 6 I find that there is some noise in the silent passages, but this is not noticeable above my voice.  Does this mean that I should try to improve the sound quality by, possibly, using a sound pod?

Presumably the extra characters down below are the ones which went missing in the passages above.

The link is for the sound recorder in Windows XP.  The sound recorder in Windows Vista is quite crippled.

Just use the Set up my microphone setup wizard to set the recording level in WSR. It works quite well.

Thanks, Marty, I did wonder why the instructions would not work on Vista or Win7.
