How do you Re-install WSR?

WSR is acting up badly...it's turning "off" unexpectedly...it may be corrupt in which case I need to re-install/repair it. 
 
Is there any way to re-install/repair WSR (without having to re-install all of Vista)?

WSR is integrated very closely to the operating system. It cannot be uninstalled and reinstalled like other software programs.

However, there are several things you can check and do:

  1. The first thing you would like to do is check your microphone/sound card. If there was a short in the cable or it was picking up electronic noise this could account for accuracy. The simplest way to check is to create a Windows Sound Recorder recording. As you are making this recording, speak nice and clear and jiggle the microphone cable at different points. If there's obvious electronic noise, then you have found the most likely course of your problems. CLICK HERE for directions for creating a Windows Sound Recorder recording test.
  2. If there's no problem with the microphone/sound card, you can try doing some additional training. Open up Control Panel and open up Speech Recognition Options. Click, "Train your computer to better understand you."
  3. If 2 above does not help, click Advanced speech options on the left side of the Speech Recognition Options window. Then click the, "New," button. Give your user a different name and begin training. This will allow you to create a new user profile.

but the problem is not one of "accuracy" - it's turning "off".
 
Actually the accuracy has been extremely good.
 
Is there a condition in the sound-card or microphone that would cause it to turn "off"?  Even if no one is speaking?

Yikes. My bad. Misinterpreted your problem badly. Thought I was responding to another query.

The problem is usually the other way around, the microphone turning itself back on when it should be staying asleep. In your case, go through your added words and see if there is anything that could be interpreted as stop listening? Also, next time it happens, run the Set up my microphone wizard. I actually read, "Peter dictates to his computer......." several times more than necessary. This takes into account the background noise levels and the level of your voice.

Seemd to have found a resolution to the problem. 
 
The specific problem: the WSR was turning off automatically.
 
For prosperity I am posting so it may possibly be a lead for others. I don't know what "THE" final fix as I changed two variables instead of one at the same time so I can say it was one of two possible resolutions.
 
1.) identified that the primary headphone/mic USB made by Dynex wire was badly frayed at one location (it appeared as though it was run over by office chair from time to time do to the length of the cord and position of the exposed wire).
 
It was replaced.
 
2.) When replacing the damaged headphones it was identified in the "Advanced" section of WSR configuration that the old headphones/mic was still listed as "primary".  Could have possibly have choosen the new headphones as primary but instead we completly deleted the old headphones/mic from the configuration, leaving the new headphone/mic as the default.
 
Has not turned "off" automatically since.
 
Hope others find this of use.

Two suggestions:
1. You must be more careful handling microphones (as if you don't know this now).
2. Consider a quality speech recognition microphone.

Not sure your point in wanting to make suggestions after a solution has been found...the value of the information before I had to figure out on my own would have been valuable...providing suggestions after the fact is just plain LAME!

You seem to be getting testy as well as forgetful. In my first response to you Posted: 27/Apr/2009 at 3:15pm in this thread I said:
"The first thing you would like to do is check your microphone/sound card. If there was a short in the cable or it was picking up electronic noise this could account for accuracy." (Should have been inaccuracy) It seems we nailed the problem from the gitgo.
