You could try but the results are likely to be unusable to unacceptable. A close talk microphone (headset, handheld or boom mounted) has a lower gain because it expects to pick up your voice from a close distance. A microphone on a computer notebook has a stronger signal pickup and will also pickup background noise which will degrade your voice signal.

Thank you,
I kind of thought that might be the case but thought I would ask somebody.
I tried a dragon voice rec. program about ten years ago and after about a week
gave it up but thought I would give this one a try being free and all.
I need to get a head set for another program and have ordered a pair of Plantronics virtual
phone booths. I hope they will be adequate.
Thanks again for your' help.

From what I have just read about this, it is apparently designed for gamers and Internet telephony. The noise suppression touted for this device is in the earphones and not the microphone. We've found Plantronics microphones to work OK in very quiet environments. However, if you have any kind of background noise, accuracy tends to degrade for speech recognition software.
In any event, they should be better than your built in microphone on the notebook.
